Youth Empowerment Initiative is doing well for pupils

Youth Empowerment Initiative was founded by Felix Asamoah Adedze and Dennis Yirenkyi a year after we they were posted to teach at Krutiase M/A Basic School as professional teachers. We felt we could do more than classroom work to make impact and brighten the corner that we are.
Our first project was the distribution of 4 sets of uniforms to less privileged kids every month for 5 months. Followed by the first major project dubbed “Reading Clinic ” to tackle low level of literacy in the school we teach. The event took place on the 21st of September, 2017. This project led to the opening of the first mini library in the school which is currently serving the student population alone. It is our goal to expand it to serve the community in due time. A couple of other projects organized by Youth Empowerment Initiative are Adolescent health and reproductive seminar and career guidance and mentorship sessions for the pupils. This took place on 12th October and 5th December , 2018 respectively. Series of inter-section quiz competitions, bead work and crocheting workshops was also organised twice in 2017/2018 academic year to help the pupils improve academically and acquire some skills. Currently, YEI is overseeing the reading clinic project by encouraging pupils to make reading a habit through intermittent reading and spelling bee competitions among classes.

Our next project is partnering with Heidi Health, an NGO into menstrual Hygeiene education and distribution of sanitary pads to support the less privileged girls in the school. We are yet to schedule a date for the project.
